Warner Springs Trail Fest, a report on how it went- The entire pantheon of gods were on our side. The expected rain was late enough for the event to finish. The "Make a Wish Foundation" was unexpectedly hiking, all 75 of them. The parking lot was full and vibrant!
There were many hikers especially the ones using the 'Far Out' app to know about things on the trail. They came from all over the globe and having them in Warner Springs has great conversation possibilities.
Burgers on the grill, plus the veggie option and an unusual offering of having a plant based lunch. Sloppy Joes on bun or baked potato, quinoa salad and a peanut butter parfait. Iced tea blended with our own Stinging Nettles.
Vendors included: Artist Heather Lara, Dorothy Willis with Bokashi buckets. Golden Eagle Farm ran the Farmers Market. There were natural cosmetics, paracord bracelets, Flowers and Flame fire starters, Mad Mikes and Walker’s Native Plants.
Cal Fire spoke as did "I Love a Clean San Diego", Hans Peterman about our nature close by and on the trail. Brent Wolf spoke about trail etiquette and he brought a friend to talk about hiking alone as a woman.
We had a display of edible plants and Sierra Club showed off the best plastic poop around (and other things!).
A special thanks to Diana Duro for the Blessing and the Cahuilla Singers for sharing their culture.
The Climate River project continues with a new location and more new expressions of the natural world and a lot of blue! There is a new plaque with a QR that leads to lots of info.
We have a new sign for the Resource Center that has our longitude and latitude coordinates, states the latin name for the Scrub Jay, and has our three local tribes words for Hello.
On the day of the event, I promise you will see Hot Springs Mountain!
Promise kept. See you next time!
