Support Book for Alzheimer's

Picture
Picture

Currently I am offering a class that supports the family members of someone with dementia. Not so much about my book, but rather creating a book of family memorabilia that is used as a communication aide. I have found that with my mother, as her verbal abilities wane, I can rely on one of the many books I have made for her, and then we have something to talk about, marvel at, laugh about. I mean, you can’t even ask someone with short recall, how their day is going and get a reasonable answer. This inability to communicate keeps folks from visiting their loved ones, and that creates a sadder world.

The class teaches through conversations, suggestions on ways to talk with your loved ones, best ways to walk, how to connect with the staff in a facility, and of course, how to put together a life-book. It normally takes all day, includes lunch and I have connections with local bed and breakfast over-night accommodations close by in case its better as a two day class.
This is a retreat with a love-purpose.

This class is only by appointment as there are many variables.
This could be an all siblings retreat, a spouses retreat. Perhaps the photos have already been scanned and the class is just a few hours. It could be in combination with one of our local wineries.

This is a story book I wrote.

In the support class, you will receive a copy of this book. We might read a few individual stories if they are appropriate for conversation, but this is not the type of book we will be making (just to be clear). To explain, this is not a book for the person with dementia, but rather for the family/caregivers to read and understand more about the disease.

We will be making a book to promote conversation with the loved one. More like the top image shows.

To purchase more "Embracing the Humor" books go to the Alzheimer's button here. The amount will be $12.00.
