SOCIAL CIRCLES
Southwestern College
Chula Vista CA
1998

Social Circles is made of circles. Slices of pipe welded together in a way that I could control the form- the form that a body takes when it sits.
The two seats are welded to a 'carpet' with a rubber fringe. The piece is in a courtyard of Southwest Community college.
When approaching the piece, you don't realize that when you sit on the rounded seat, a spring allows it to become lower than the other seat. You rest your hands and the space provided causes them to curl inward.
The other seat keep one's back upright, so you are now inches above you friend/guest/fellow participant. Your hand rests upon a glass orb. It is sumptuous.
