Nina Karavasiles

There was wonderful display of Judith Christensen’s work at the Rose Art Gallery on the grounds of the Francis Parker School in San Diego. It closed at the end of January 2026. I’m including info on getting to know her work, which is mostly book related. Judith and I worked together on a number of projects and when I got her request to show a unusually book we made collaboratively a very long time ago I was excited and honored. The high top table in the library room now has a new light. It is made of varied rice papers and half round rattan. I used some old copper wire (from our new solar project) to connect the rattan and then paper-mached over the joints. You can see the copper wires poking through. I encouraged the magic of haphazardness to make the form. There is also an orange glass temperature weight as a focal point. Public Art for a new affordable housing-mixed use development and for the city of San Diego. Along the trolley tracks on Commercial at 22nd (hence the complex’s name, Comm22) this community - based project boasts a large mural and a large sculpture. 30 feet long, a double-sided painting by master muralist Mario Chacon along with his assistant Hector Villegas.
