"Train-Like"

| This statement describes the philosophy of the station design. The essential elements for the 70th Street station design is in it's spirit as well as it's visuals. The philosophy of the stewardship of the environment is evident in the use of recycled glass and concrete in the platform, recycled plastic in the seating and the use of solar power. Native plantings are most appropriate for the area. Coupled with this notion is that riders are choosing to take the trolley and that MTDB supports their choice by also being concerned with the environment. During their time waiting, they are enticed to investigate their surroundings with plaques, text that has been sandblasted into concrete pole bases, a historic map from 1915, and a sculpture which has deliberately set back in order for each rider to make their own subtle discoveries. A rider can choose to sit under the sade giving awning which is a solr powered sculptural form with all the asymmetry of an actual tree. This station has a distinct look which echoes La Mesa, and has a time-release aspect for many investigations. |
